Kickstands For a Cure

"Cruisin 4 Cody"

ManUpkc is proud to support a local teenager’s fight against Cancer as we present our first charity motorcycle ride "Cruisin for Cody"

Cody Hearn is a Senior currently attending  Saint James Academy in western Shawnee, KS with hopes of going to college in the fall of this year. Cody's fight started with minor elbow pain and was diagnosed with Stage 3 Burkitt's Lymphoma, a form of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in November of 2011. After undergoing an aggressive treatment program Cody is currently in remission but due to the devastating effects of his treatments he is spending a great deal of his time at Children’s Mercy Hospital coping with an onslaught of debilitating side effects. Through his struggle, Cody continues to keep up with his school work and fight the good fight as he looks forward with hope and faith to a pain and cancer free future .

Cody brings his unshakeable spirit and message of hope as he spreads his testimony to others  in the KC area. Cody  wrote the following for a college entry application:

“Often, it takes people a lifetime to discover the real meaning of their existence. I’ve been blessed to have life send me an early wakeup call. It came suddenly and demanded a quick examination of what matters most in life. It brought me face-to-face with my own mortality - a diagnosis of Stage 3 Burkitt's Lymphoma.

This would be the fight of my life, for my life and could not be fought alone. It took the dedicated knowledge and expertise of medical professionals to implement the treatments necessary to combat my greatest nemesis. It took the compassion, caring, and support of family and friends to make it through each day. It took the dedicated love, concern and sacrifices that only a mom and dad could muster up.

Cancer has taught me the immense value of teamwork; that we all need each other, and together, we can accomplish more than we often dare to imagine. Collaborating, we can encourage, support and inspire one another to overcome life’s obstacles by staying positive and focusing on the “good” – the gifts, talents and passions that are uniquely ours.”

We have the opportunity to help with medical expenses which continue to pile up and give much needed financial relief to a devoted family who has given all to see Cody conquer this disease and try to provide a level of normalcy for an inspiring young man’s future.

ManUpkc has partnered with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Mid-America Chapter to bring needed support for Cody and others afflicted with this dreaded diseases. 50% of the proceeds from this event shall go to this fantastic organization to find a cure for these dreaded diseases. Come out and show your support as KC's motorcycle community rides for Cody and others in need of our help.
